Equipment Safety Disclaimer

The content on Engine Equipment Guide is general guidance only. The categories below highlight the safety boundaries we observe — and ask you to observe — when using our recommendations.

Electrical work

Never backfeed your home’s wiring with a generator. Use a transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician. Backfeeding can electrocute utility workers and damage your home’s circuits.

Carbon monoxide

Operate generators outdoors only — at least 15 feet from windows, doors, and vents. Install CO detectors indoors. Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and fatal.

Fuel handling

Store fuel in approved containers, away from ignition sources, and rotate stock. Never refuel a hot generator. Follow local fire codes for stored fuel quantities.

Mechanical repair

Always follow your engine or equipment manufacturer’s service manual. Use jack stands — never work under a vehicle supported by a floor jack alone. Use safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves appropriate to the task.

Pressure systems

Air compressor tanks should be drained regularly to prevent corrosion. Air hoses should be rated for the maximum pressure of your system. Never aim compressed air at skin or eyes.

Professional help

When in doubt, hire a qualified technician. Our content stays in the planning and selection lane — repair and installation work is for licensed pros.
